Concrete is the material for an upscale patio when the look you want is a single continuous plane. It takes finishes, colors and scoring, and it handles furniture, traffic and weather with almost no maintenance.
Where it goes wrong is in preparation and control joints. Concrete moves, and a slab poured without planned joints will crack where it wants to instead of where we put the line.
